This year marks the 30th Anniversary!

Recital Tips

The following information is provided as a guideline so that parents and dancers, especially first-timers, will know what to expect. As always, if you have questions, please contact the front desk which will be happy to assist you.

Upon your arrival at the theatre:

Entrance to the White Pines Theatre for rehearsals is through the side stage door.

Rehearsal Schedule (Recreational students only)
TBA

There will be a detailed rehearsal schedule posted on the bulletin board at the studio well before the rehearsal date. The students should arrive at least one hour prior to the scheduled time. The teacher will inform you of details on the hair, make–up and any accessories for that particular routine. PLEASE BE PROMPT. We must run the numbers during the time they are scheduled.

There will also be a detailed schedule of the performances posted on the bulletin board at the studio. It will be listed by the class time and level, as well as by the name of the routine. Please check this list for your child’s routines, and keep in mind; a) what performance they are in, b) what order they are to perform in, and c) how many routines they have in between their numbers (if they are in more than one: this will help with knowing how much time they’ll have to change, etc.). Once the schedule is posted in the studio, and you have your child’s times, please refer back to this information and read over it.

The shows are approximately 2 and a half hours in length, taking approximately 3 minutes per routine. All audience members must have a ticket. We will let you know when tickets go on sale closer to the performance dates.

Please arrive at theatre at least one hour early, especially if your child’s routine is in the first half of the performance.

Staff will be in charge of changing the students and having them ready for each number. No parents are allowed backstage. This makes for a more professional show and allows audience members to remain seated to enjoy the entire performance.

As we’re sure you're aware, this is a very important event for your child. Please be sure that they are in the appropriate place at the designated time in order for things to run smoothly and to prevent disappointment for your child or other members of the group. If everyone is ready ahead of schedule, these will run stress-free, making them an even more exciting and wonderful experience for your child to remember. We thank you in advance for your efforts in demonstrating great timing.

Dancers will be notified regarding the hair style(s) required for each routine. Please note that bangs are not permitted and will have to be pinned / gelled back. Each dancer should arrive at the recital with the appropriate hairstyle for the first number they are in. You will need; hairbrush, comb, long and short hairpins, hairspray, elastics, hair-nets for buns, gel or spray gel. Please purchase a supply of these items for your dancer. Do not rely on other dancers to supply these items.

Competitive dancers will be notified at the beginning of the competitive season regarding the correct make-up to be worn by all dancers. It is important that all dancers apply and wear the same make-up for a uniform look. Please do not use other colour choices, as they are ineffective on stage. All dancers in a group number are supposed to look alike.

For hygienic reasons, please do not share make-up.

Most theatres do not have sufficient lighting or mirror space available for make-up application. Please include a mirror in your make-up case.

Please note that no nail polish, watches or jewelry may be worn on stage (including pierced earrings) unless part of the costume.
